In April 1993, myself and a couple of other photographers were granted access to Glasgow airport for a behind the scenes look at how the airport operates. The airport was at that time on the threshold of massive transformation and it was a good opportunity to record how it was at that time. As well as the terminal buildings we were granted access to the various Air Traffic Control Towers, British Airways maintenance hangar and the Fire Station. Taking pictures in the cramped condition of the crash rescue simulator cages was difficult enough without the smoke and sound effects turned on.
This is a selection of the photographs taken over the day spent at Glasgow Airport.
