In May 1983 I took myself off on the train to do some Youth Hosteling and to take some photographs.  It was at the height of the Falklands War so it was nice to get away from the TV and radio and clear my head (no mobile phones in those days!). I had booked a stay at the Morar Youth Hostel and the next day I headed up to Mallaig. I immediately fell in love with the place and have been back a few times since. The Mallaig we see today is very different to what it was in 1983. All of the seafood railway goods yard has gone, replaced by a new road into the village. These pictures capture what it was like in the village and what the yard looked like before they were leveled.
